Gadgets can help enhance your workouts. Whether you are just a beginner or a pro, there is a lot of gadgets in the market, and a lot of options to choose from. For me, the most important part of my workout is Music, music keeps me motivated, energized and focused.
Using my phone for music during my workouts was annoying, the battery used to drain at the middle of my workout, messages and calls were distracting me, not to mention how hard it is to carry on my phone during squats or while running. Last year I decided to try Bluetooth Mp3 players, so I started with Sony Walkman, which took my workout to a whole new level, until it broke this year and I couldn’t find a place to repair it, neither a replacement so I had to switch to Samsung GearX Icon.
Below are my reviews on Samsung Gear IconX and Sony Walkman.
Sony Walkman NWZWS613BLK 4 GB Bluetooth Sports Wearable MP3 Player
Sony Walkman NWZWS613BLK Doesn’t come with any fitness trackers or features, this audio wearable is Perfect for all terrains, it’s salt waterproof and dust-proof, which means that it’s the perfect companion for swimming, running and working out. The battery lasts between 4 and 12 hours, and it has a fast charging feature. You have the ability to choose between listening via Bluetooth or loading songs directly to the device. It has noise cancelling features, but the sound underwater is pretty low. Loading mp3 to Walkman is pretty easy and fast. Price is around 200$, but it doesn’t have warranty or repair shops. It’s compatible with iOS and android, you can download the Walkman application on your device and control which songs plays or view the status of the battery. Sony also has another Headset that has another Wearable Music Player with Fitness Tracker, but the battery doesn’t live up to the one that doesn’t have a fitness tracker.
Samsung Gear IconX
Samsung Gear IconX has step counter and heart beat monitor features, it’s sweat proof, which means that you cannot swim using this gadget. The battery is pretty bad, lasts between 1.5 and 4 hours, charging the gear is very slow. You also have the ability to listen to songs loaded to the device it self or from your mobile. The sound is not as good as walkman, loading songs to the gear without an android is a little bit slow and difficult, you will have to install the gear application. Price is around 200$ as well. The design is way better than Sony’s walkman, but just like walkman this gear doesn’t come with warranty or repair shops. It’s compatible with Android, where as for people who use iOS like me, they will only be able to use this gear as a a wireless headset.
Samsung Gear IconX vs Sony Walkman – The Best Sports Bluetooth MP3 Player is:
While there’s not a lot of functionality to differentiate these two items, the winner in this case has to be chosen based on what you look for in a sound gear, if monitoring your steps and heartbeat is more important for you, then Samsung Gear Iconx is the best for you. But if you care about the battery, compatibility with iOS and convenience Sony Walkman is the best.
Note: Sony seem to have pulled out from the Lebanese Market, and finding Sony-Fitness products in Lebanon is now really hard.
Final Words: Although having a sound gear with me during my workout is really crucial for me, I think that both gears are overpriced and still need a lot of improvement before they can satisfy our needs. I think that the next few releases will have a to offer and prove, and I really can’t wait to try them when they’re out.
