The theft of mobiles  is widespread,  your passcode will not prevent thieves from erasing your content and setting up the device as a new, as thieves can simply  “restore” or format your phone.

The good news, is that if you own an iPhone, iPad, or iPod using iOS 7 and above, you can protect it from being hacked using a security feature called Activation Lock that automatically works with the free iCloud account.

Since Apple requires activation with their server each time a new iOS is restored or installed, this feature locks the activation, and prevents unauthorized “changes” to your iOS, by asking for your apple id’s password each time you try to Restore or Update the iOS.

How To Protect Your iPhone from theft:

  1. On your iOS device go to Settings -> iCloud
  2. Login with your current Apple Store Id ( If you don’t have an Apple Id, you can get one for free)
  3. Once you logged in to iCloud , Make sure that Find my iPhone is activated

Find My iPhone  will now allow you to locate, lock or erase your iOS device and prevent it from being erased or reactivated without your password. You will be asked to enter your password each time you want to restore your software.
