WhatsApp denies the privacy abuse

we sent an email to the whatsapp support asking them why the application requires all those permissions to run

yesterday i tried to install it , and notice that it asked for my number to send a verification via sms, however the application red the sms without my permission which showed that it had access to my sms without my permission.

however i went to my application permissions and denied the application from having access to all the data , leaving only the internet connection available . But the application refused to start .

Anyway this application  is  a privacy concern for me  , i wonder why this application needs access to my mail, mobile inbox and multimedia infos?

but they didn’t only replied by “we don’t require access to your mail or mobile inbox”. So i am really wondering how did the application get the verification code from my sms inbox (without asking me  either i allow  or not) and why the application refuses to run without having permission to  my sms/mail inbox, multimedias and geo location?

Found this post after searching for the fact that WhatsApp needs access to location. The list of permissions it needs is preposterous.
I find it unbelievable how many people are using this app, considering the privacy issues.
Do you think more then 1% really understands what this app is capable of?
I will inform the next days, about the consequences of using this app.
