We worry today that our kids might be surf those adult sites .Although most of these websites have a warning page , the kids will probably just ignore it, and surf the page anyway.

How can I block adult/porn sites for free?

NortonTM ConnectSafe for Home is a free service run by Symantec that will allow you to block adult sites;
Norton ConnectSafe provides basic browsing protection and content filtering for all Web-enabled devices on your home network, of course if you want to get a full protection you might want to consider buying a full security product such as Norton Internet Security or Norton 360.

NB: please the term of use before using this service

There are two basic ways to use Norton ConnectSafe.

  • You can either setup your router to use Norton ConnectSafe and protect your entire home network (recommended)
  • You can set up Norton ConnectSafe on individual computers

Before you start there are 3  ways of protection you have to save those ip to use them in the next steps:

  1.  Security (malware, phishing sites and scam sites)
    • Preferred DNS: 198.153.192.40
    • Alternate DNS: 198.153.194.40
  2. Security + Pornography
    • Preferred DNS: 198.153.192.50
    • Alternate DNS: 198.153.194.50

General Router Setup Instructions

  1. Enter the IP address of your router in a Web browser.
  2. Enter the username and password. (The default username and password are provided in the router’s directions).
  3. Navigate through the router menu system and locate the DNS Server settings. It may look like this:

  4. Enter the Norton ConnectSafe IP addresses shown in the yellow box (on this page to the right) and save your changes.

If your router came with a setup CD, you can run the CD to access the set up tools. You will want the Manual router setup, not the automatic or wizard set up.

Configure PC

Norton ConnectSafe on Windows® XP

  1. On your Start menu, open the Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel window, click Network Connections and choose your current connection.
  3. On the General tab of the Connection Status window, click Properties.
  4. On the General tab of the Connection Properties window, scroll down and select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), then click Properties.
  5. On the General tab of the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window, in the lower section, select Use the following DNS server addresses, and then type the Norton ConnectSafe IP addresses shown in the yellow box on this page.
  6. Click OK and exit all the windows.

 

Norton ConnectSafe on Windows® Vista

  1. On your Start menu, open the Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel window, click Network and Sharing Center.
  3. In the Network section, select View Status of each connection.
  4. On the General tab of the Connection Status window, click Properties.
  5. On the General tab of the Connection Properties, scroll down and select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), then click Properties.
  6. On the General tab of the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties window, in the lower section, select Use the following DNS server addresses, and then type the Norton ConnectSafe IP addresses shown in the yellow box on this page.
  7. Click OK and exit all the windows.

  1. On your Start menu, open the Control Panel.
  2. Under the Network and Internet section, click View network status and tasks.
  3. In the View your active networks section, click the item to the right of Connections:
